5x4.5" Bolt Pattern Wheels (5x114.3mm)

5x4.5" is the same pattern as 5x114.3mm. It is the five-lug pattern Ford put on its V8 cars for decades, and Volvo used it through the sixties, so it covers both American muscle and Swedish touring cars.

How to measure a five-lug pattern

With five studs there is no stud directly across from another, so a straight ruler measurement does not work. The reliable method is to measure center to center between two neighboring studs and multiply by 1.701.

On a 5x114.3mm hub, neighboring studs sit about 67.2mm apart. If you get closer to 70.9mm, you are on 5x4.75" instead.

Five on 4.5 vs five on 4.75

Ford and Chrysler used 5x4.5". GM used 5x4.75". The circles are a quarter inch apart, and both get called "five lug" in a classified ad. If the car has had a rear axle from another make, the front and rear may not even match. Measure both ends. GM cars belong on our 5x4.75" page.

Year breaks that change the pattern

Three of the cars above changed patterns partway through production. Six-cylinder Mustangs ran four studs, which puts them on 4x4.5". Barracudas before 1970 were built on the smaller A-body 5x4" pattern. Volvo moved the 1800 to 5x108mm when the 1800E arrived, which puts later cars on 5x108mm.

Hub bore on American cars

Ford, Mopar and Volvo hubs share this bolt pattern but not the size of the center pilot, so a wheel bored for one car may not go over the hub of another. The listing shows the hub bore for every wheel. Compare it against your car before ordering.

Should I verify my bolt pattern before ordering?

Yes, always verify your bolt pattern before placing an order. Vintage and classic cars can have unique or uncommon bolt patterns, and specifications sometimes varied between model years or production runs.
